CULM — MATERIAL INDEX / 02

Materials & Making

At CULM, the material comes before the decoration. We build garments around hemp and other regenerative fibres, with an emphasis on texture, traceability, durability and a quieter approach to design.

Why hemp?

Hemp is valued by CULM for its strength, tactile character and the way it can soften over repeated wear and washing. We use material composition as a design decision—not simply as a label claim.

What are regenerative fibres?

Regenerative fibres are fibres connected to agricultural or material systems that aim to improve, restore or reduce pressure on natural resources. Because sourcing can vary by garment, the product page and garment label are the best source for the exact fibre composition of a specific piece.

How is a CULM garment made?

The process varies by piece. Some cloth may be mill-woven in a controlled run, while selected fabrics or pieces may involve slower hand processes. Where a product has a specific batch, weaving method or maker story, we aim to communicate that information with the garment.

Why does texture matter?

Natural fibres do not need to be made visually perfect to feel premium. Subtle variation, weave and hand are part of the material experience. CULM design keeps decoration restrained so the cloth can remain the focus.

How do I make natural-fibre clothing last longer?

Wash only when needed, follow the garment care label, use mild detergent and avoid excessive heat. Store garments clean and dry. Small changes in care can extend the useful life of a piece.

Our approach

Honest. Enduring. Quiet. Fewer pieces, considered materials and clothing designed to remain useful beyond a season.

For product-specific composition and care, always refer to the product page and the label inside the garment.
