How to Wash and Care for Hemp Clothing

The safest way to care for hemp clothing is to follow the care label on the individual garment. Hemp fabrics can vary significantly by blend, weave, dye, finish and construction, so one universal washing rule is not appropriate for every piece.
How should hemp clothing be washed?
Start with the garment label. Where the product permits machine washing, use the specified temperature and cycle. Avoid automatically choosing a hotter or more aggressive wash because it appears more thorough; unnecessary heat and agitation can increase wear in many textiles.
Can hemp clothing be machine dried?
Only when the care instructions allow it. Drying method can influence shrinkage, surface texture and garment shape. Air drying may be appropriate for many natural-fibre garments, but the specific product instructions should always come first.
Should hemp clothing be ironed?
If ironing is permitted, use the temperature stated on the care label. Natural creasing is part of the visual character of many hemp-led fabrics, so a perfectly pressed surface is not always necessary.
How can I make clothing last longer?
